Wander Off Into Space

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

By the time I found the work of Chuck Anderson, I had been running my first studio (Karmic Interactive) for a year or so with a good friend. It was during this time that I remember feeling like I was less a designer, and more the tool through which a client got what it wanted. Because of this, Anderson’s work blew me away. Here was a kid (literally) doing what came naturally and getting paid for it. Over the years, Anderson has turned into NOPATTERN and amassed a huge body of really cool work. Recently, Anderson released the book “Wander Off Into Space,” a stunning display of his work and art. Check it out:

Heart You by Zara Gonzalez

Heart You by Zara Gonzalez

I recently picked up this print on Etsy from artist and designer Zara Gonzalez of Minneapolis, MN. There still appear to be a few left on Etsy, so you should go snag one while you still can. You can also catch more from Zara on her blog at http://www.sevencolordays.com/. I am personally looking forward to whatever new prints the future holds.

X-planation and First Works

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

When I created Mental X back in late 1999, it was intended to be a place for me to create and post experimental web and technology related work. From there, it morphed into a studio, then blog, then portfolio. I am now working on taking it back to its original form nearly 10 years later. The first work I have been doing is Flash generated art influenced by Joshua Davis and Erik Natzke. The following pieces are in fact based on code and components written by Mr. Davis, to which I am very thankful. You can find the code here: http://www.joshuadavis.com/workshop/. The original code has been modified by using Flash’s drawing API. Variables were tweaked, and outputs altered.

I Cant Believe Its Not Better - Strumming

I Can't Believe It's Not Better - Strumming

Nice work from Matthew Green of icantbelieveitsnotbetter. Very detailed, and full of slightly off center, but extremely interesting ideas.
