RJDJ Player -- Echolon Scene
Ran across a little, and very cool iPhone app called RJDJ. RJDJ uses your iPhone microphone to pull in sounds from your surrounding area and manipulate them in various ways. The way in which the sounds are manipulated depends on your selection of “scenes.” Some scenes loop, some distort, some change the intensity of the sounds based on various parameters of your environment. Scenes can be created if you are familiar with Pure Data (pd), though this process is reserved for music/media geeks. While I am not completely sold on the current state of the application, it has true promise and is at the very least interesting. You can snag a free single scene or pay $2.99 for a current selection of 6 scenes — eargasm being my favorite at the moment.
