RJDJ Player -- Eargasm Scene

RJDJ Player -- Echolon Scene

Ran across a little, and very cool iPhone app called RJDJ. RJDJ uses your iPhone microphone to pull in sounds from your surrounding area and manipulate them in various ways. The way in which the sounds are manipulated depends on your selection of “scenes.” Some scenes loop, some distort, some change the intensity of the sounds based on various parameters of your environment. Scenes can be created if you are familiar with Pure Data (pd), though this process is reserved for music/media geeks. While I am not completely sold on the current state of the application, it has true promise and is at the very least interesting. You can snag a free single scene or pay $2.99 for a current selection of 6 scenes — eargasm being my favorite at the moment. If I am not mistaken, the current crop is set to expand to a larger number in coming months. Get your copy here.

While I have just completed the redesign. I will need a minute to get some content flowing. Please be patient. Until then, there’s this.

New Mental X, Alive and Well

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

The redesign of Mental X is now upon us. The resulting design and implementation is reflective of a slightly new direction for the site. No longer will there be long and boring articles about technology, education and the like. Instead, the site will be broken into 3 sections: Art, Mental X and the Feed. Art will house my digital and organic art work. Mental X will house Flash, music and other related experiments. And, the Feed will be a repository for cool design, art, and other miscellaneous stuff I find interesting.

Nothing too remarkable about the new digs. It is still using WordPress, which I like more and more everyday. It is also using sIFR 3 with NotCarlson (from Emigre – a favorite of mine) and DIN. Other than that, it’s a pretty standard fare.

That seems to be all for now. Comments are currently not turned on (might change my mind in the future). If you need to reach me, email noah [at] mentalx.com. Dig.
